Revitalizing Waterbury: Turning Distressed Properties into Community Assets

In a commendable effort to revitalize distressed neighborhoods and boost the city’s taxable income, the Waterbury Land Bank Authority (WLB), in partnership with the City of Waterbury, is stepping in to transform underutilized properties into productive assets. This collaboration aims not only to enhance the overall property values in Waterbury but also to foster a sense of community and improve the quality of life for its residents.

Unlocking Opportunities: City of Waterbury Real Estate Auction

The synergy between WLB and the City of Waterbury will be showcased at the upcoming real estate auction on Thursday, September 28th, at Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 235 Grand Street, Waterbury. The event is a golden opportunity for potential buyers to explore the possibilities that these rejuvenated properties offer and to engage with WLB representatives. They will be available to answer questions about acquiring a Land Bank property and to discuss the priorities and procedures involved.

Event Details:

  • Location: Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 2nd Floor, 235 Grand Street, Waterbury

  • Registration: 5:00 – 6:00pm

  • Live Auction: 6:00pm

Fostering Owner-Occupied Residences

Central to the mission of WLB is the promotion of owner-occupied residences within target neighborhoods. Priority is given to individuals who commit to occupying the property for a minimum of five years. In the case of multi-family properties, preference is accorded to those who will reside in at least one unit of the residence for the same period.

The WLB is dedicated to ensuring that these properties contribute to the well-being and development of the communities they are a part of, fostering a sense of ownership and belonging among the residents.

How to Participate

Those interested in purchasing a property from WLB can view available properties and apply online. Completing an application is the first step to expressing interest in a specific property, but it does not constitute a binding offer to purchase or an agreement with the WLB. Each application will be reviewed, and applicants will be contacted with further instructions when the property sales process begins.

Potential buyers are encouraged to create a User Account to complete a bid application, and the WLB will review and rank all bids. Emphasis is placed on applicants intending to make the property their residence, aligning with WLB’s goal of promoting owner-occupied residences.
